Kim was born in Newark Ohio on June 28, 1957 to Richard and Betty Barkley. She was Betty's little princess, and held on to that moniker for the rest of her days.
I want to embellish this page with some early family stories. I have some pictures but not many stories from her early life.
Above is Kim's first birthday, and maybe the reason that she loves Chocolate Cake.
The two photos about were taken in Silver Springs, Maryland where they lived for two summers after leaving Ohio, and Cherri took these photos.
I tried to capture the edges of these old photos because they are part of the timeless charm of old photographs. I can assume that this is the Barkley's back yard in Newark.
Kim and Scott at Christmas in 1964. This, I think, is the earliest Christmas photo I have found yet. I have a lot of Kim and Scott photos. I look at things in these pictures, and recognize stuff that we still have. If you look at the furniture on the left it is a Dry Sink, and its sitting in our dining room today.
Then here is another picture from the late 60's, maybe 1968. Not really a great picture, but there are two things that I notice. The TV is off. Kim generally had the TV on, always. But also the Candelabra in the TV is sitting on the dining room table today. Its like time travel or something...
A lot of these photos lack annotations and I can only guess the date, so for this one maybe the early 1970's. I have been looking for portrait photos, and found quite a few eligible photos for the Obituary, and the Memorial Service program. Also in this picture Kim is wearing an oxford shirt, and I have never seen her wear this type of shirt ever. Maybe this one was a school portrait?
Kim and the puppies is either a magnetic or gravitational phenomena. Wherever Kim was there were the Creatures. Also, conversely, the dog is not on Scott. Its a trend...Christmas on High Vista in 1967. Look at that! A real Christmas Tree, and Popcorn Strings... This is clearly the house on High Vista. Some of there scenery is familiar to me...
Like this picture, there are somethings I recognize like the Dry Sink, but there is no annotation, and no date stamp. So, seeing that it is a color photograph would date it like 1969, or 70. The house was arranged differently this Christmas. The Barkley's had an annual excursion to Florida where, I think to the Grandparents house. There are quite a few pictures at the beach. This is Betty Kim, and Scott at the beach.
I think this picture is at St. Augustine at an old Spanish fort. Note Scott fixing to pull the firing mechanism of the Cannon, LOL! That is a nice piece of history there.
Oh look, more Creatures. Kim doesn't look quite sure about this one. It looks like fun, but again I have no backstory on this picture.
Kim and Scott in 1971, and you can tell by the carpet. Again there are more familiar things in this picture. The cross behind Kim is similar to one in our hallway.Betty, Kim, and Scott in 1965. This is the back door of the High Vista house. Everyone is wearing white, it must be laundry day.
